Biography:

Formed in early 2023, the Seion Quartet has already enjoyed a variety of different performances and opportunities, including collaborating with Merton College Oxford, performing repertoire by Mendelssohn, Webern and Mozart. The quartet was honoured to perform in the Royal College of Music’s Super String Sunday, held in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall. Last term, they played in the Broadstone Music Series in Dorset and thoroughly enjoyed a Shostakovich project alongside the Brodsky Quartet at the RCM. Members of the quartet were chosen to collaborate with the Sacconi Quartet in concert and took part in the Sacconi Festival in Folkestone earlier last year.

The members of the Seion Quartet are Joe MacDonald and Sally Aiko Dando, who both study under Radu Blidar, Joe Berry, who studies with Jonathan Barritt, and Carys Underwood, who studies with Richard Lester. The quartet has received coaching from world-renowned musicians and groups, such as the Maggini, Solem, Sacconi and Brodsky Quartets, Simon Rowland-Jones and Denis Brott. The name ‘Seion’ ties in with Joe and Sally’s Japanese connections, and can be translated to ‘tone of voice’ or ‘serenity’.
